While mystery remains over what foul-smelling substance landed on several South Auckland homes, a Waitakere resident says there is no mystery over the faecal bombings hitting his rural home - it's the birds, he claims.
Last week, several South Auckland residents claimed a mystery brown substance splattering on their homes and family members was human waste that came from passing planes.
Rod Kane of Henderson, who sent a picture he took of his poo-drenched ranchslider at his Gregory Rd home to the Herald, said he did so "for the benefit of those lost souls that think a mere bird could never carry that much dunnage".
"This is a full-size 2.4m-wide ranchslider at my own residence in Waitakere which is in the country and not under any flight lines apart from tui, ducks, geese and native woodpigeons," Mr Kane said.
"The last three in particular are prodigious dung-tankers, and after 30 years of living out here, I can definitely confirm that you clean up after them with a square-mouth number 14 shovel rather than a dishcloth."
The Herald is aware of at least eight cases where a brown substance, some believe to be human waste, has splattered properties in Drury, Karaka and Papakura.
