KEY POINTS:
A woman driver, so drunk police said she could hardly stand up, narrowly missed hitting a parked ambulance before being caught.
The 32-year-old is to appear in Tauranga District Court later this month on charges of dangerous driving and driving with excess breath alcohol, The Bay of Plenty Times reports.
The woman's car was stopped by police on State Highway 2 between Tauranga and Te Puke after being clocked at 152km/h on Saturday.
When stopped, police reported the woman could hardly stand up and was slurring her words. She could not recall narrowly missing the ambulance parked near a roundabout.
She produced a breath alcohol level of 818 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The limit for a person over 20 years is 400mcg.
Sergeant Trinity Morrison said she did not think the driver would have made it home if she hadn't been stopped by police.
