Two Carterton women were sentenced to supervision in Masterton District Court on Monday for disorderly behaviour and wilful damage, after an incident in which a shop window was broken.
Maheno Reta Terangi, 30, and Henipaku Apireira Tiraariki Kiriwera Matiaha, 25, who had been drinking, were walking past the Salvation Army store in Carterton at about 11am on Saturday, September 19.
The women heard something they "perceived to be a slight" from inside the store. Both women became upset and began banging on the window, and Terangi broke the window.
When Matiaha was visited later by police, she damaged a police car.
Judge Barbara Morris told Matiaha that "when you assess it in the sober light of day, it's pretty appalling behaviour."
