A drunk woman on home detention who police found trapped in a Hamilton school early this morning told police she had broken in because she needed to get home in time for her curfew.
Sergeant Phil Ruddell said police were called to the Hamilton suburb of Enderley at about 2.20am after a woman reported someone trying to open the locked back door of her house.
"There were then reports of smashing glass at the next-door school and officers arrived to find a woman who had somehow managed to gain entry into the school but was then unable to get out due to the effective fencing," said Mr Ruddell.
"The 35-year-old woman appeared to have been drinking for some time and said she was in the school grounds trying to take a short cut to get home because she was on home detention.
"She was somewhat confused when officers pointed out her curfew began at 7pm and it was now 2.40am."
Police said the woman was taken back to the Hamilton Central Police Station for detoxification and will be interviewed later this morning.
