A 41-year-old woman was spotted drunkenly stumbling out of a Mt Maunganui liquor store and driving away in a car with two children.
A concerned person contacted police on Friday afternoon, after seeing the the woman leave the store and drive away with two eight-year-old children in the car, Mt Maunganui Senior Sergeant Joel Lamb said.
Police went to her Gordon Road home and removed her and the children.
The woman blew 877 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath - over twice the legal limit.
Her licence was instantly suspended for 28 days and she was released to appear later in court, Mr Lamb said.
The incident has also been referred to the Department of Child Youth and Family.
Mr Lamb said drink driving continued to be a "major concern" in Western Bay of Plenty.
"It is great to see that the community takes a stand when they witness these events and assist police in apprehension and prevention," he said.
