KEY POINTS:
A drunk teenager wearing a high visibility police jacket faces a date in court after pulling over drivers in Te Rapa, Hamilton, last weekend.
One of the cars he stopped was being driven by a member of a Hamilton police squad set up to track boy racers, the Waikato Times reported.
Waikato road policing manager Inspector Leo Tooman said while police could see the funny side of the situation he doubted the offender did now.
"The repercussions of this could be quite serious as impersonating a police officer is a reasonably serious charge."
Eight other people were arrested during the weekend clampdown on boy racers.
