He drove though a give-way on to Carlton Ave, and at Carlton Primary School stopped to let his passenger out.
Young continued speeding into heavy traffic and turned into London St, travelling at 100km/h, which he sustained through four give-way intersections.
At the end of London St, he lost control of the car and skidded into a vacant parking lot. He continued to drive down Kaikokopu Rd, where his front tyre fell off in the middle of the road.
He drove home on the rim.
Young represented himself and accepted the police summary of facts, acknowledging that he was "very drunk" at the time of the incident.
At the time he told police he was angry because his dad did not accept him as his child.
He had a breath alcohol reading of 811mcg, twice the legal limit of 400mcg.
At sentencing in Whanganui District Court, Judge Heather Simpson told Young it was an "extremely foolish episode on your part".
The judge said his probation report noted he was a risk but, because he had three children to care for while his partner worked in another town, there was an opportunity for him to be dealt with in the community.
Young was sentenced to 10 months supervision, 200 hours community work, and disqualified from driving for one year and three months on charges of operating a motor vehicle recklessly, driving while disqualified, excess breath alcohol and failing to stop. He was also ordered to attend drug and alcohol counselling and a Tekanga Maori programme.
