KEY POINTS:
A Palmerston North man has been arrested after he was caught allegedly drunk driving with his five-year-old daughter in the car, having left four other children at home alone.
Acting Sergeant Shelley Ross said the 31-year-old was so intoxicated he could barely stand at 2.45am today when police pulled him over on Highbury Ave, Palmerston North.
His daughter was unrestrained in the car.
When police went to his house they found four other children, aged three to 11, unsupervised.
Mr Ross said the man would be charged with failing to accompany police and driving while under the influence, while charges of leaving children under 14 without reasonable supervision were being considered.
The matter had been referred to Child Youth and Family.
