KEY POINTS:
A drunk driver pulled up at a Whangarei service station, opened the door - and promptly fell asleep.
Kevin Garland's actions angered other motorists who had difficulty accessing the pumps at the Mobil service station.
Attempts to rouse him by a service station attendant and a taxi driver failed and he was left for an hour before police were called, the Northern Advocate reported.
In Whangarei District Court Garland pleaded guilty to driving with 1127mcg of alcohol per litre of breath - almost three times the legal limit.
He was bailed to reappear in court for sentencing on July 4.
