A drunk driver and his passenger were found drinking in a car that was seen weaving wildly across a road, narrowly missing a group of cyclists.
Police said two members of the public noticed the vehicle weaving on Kaipaki Rd near Cambridge last night.
"The members of the public were horrified to see both driver and the passenger drinking while their vehicle was barely under control," said Inspector Freda Grace, Waikato district road policing manager.
"Somehow they managed to get the driver to pull over and took his keys," Mrs Grace said.
"When police arrived the male driver returned a breath alcohol reading of 1100 micrograms."
