A drink-driver who crashed his car and fled the scene leaving behind his three children was jailed yesterday.
Gavin Jonathan Lewis, 31, legged it after hitting a parked car in New Plymouth on September 30 last year leaving his children, aged two, six and 10, sitting in the crashed vehicle, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
When he was stopped by police, Lewis blew a breath alcohol level of 867 micrograms per litre of breath, over twice the legal limit of 400.
Lewis was sentenced to eight months in prison and disqualified from driving for 18 months when he appeared in New Plymouth District Court yesterday.
