Waikato police say they found an indoor cannabis growing operation next to a baby's bedroom during an overnight domestic welfare check.
Officers went to the Banbury Crescent home shortly after midnight to check on the wellbeing of the occupants, and detected the aroma of cannabis, said Sergeant Jason McKay.
Police carried out a search and discovered the growing operation.
Mr McKay said a 27-year-old man was arrested on drug charges and was expected to appear in Hamilton District Court later this week.
"Last night's incident just goes to show the importance of remaining vigilant when attending domestic matters, earlier in the week we had a colleague assaulted and now we've yet another example of how drugs are interlinked with all types of offending," he said.
"Domestic violence in its own right is not acceptable but cultivating drugs alongside children is also definitely not OK," he said.
