KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating a smash and grab at a Dunedin pharmacy this morning.
Sergeant Chris George said an unknown quantity of drugs were stolen from a pharmacy on the corner of George and Frederick Street at around 3.55am.
Mr George said the thieves smashed the front door of the chemist shop before grabbing medication and escaping by car.
A "reasonable" amount of drugs had been stolen, he said.
"We suspect that they [the drugs] will be used for methamphetamine."
Witnesses described the vehicle as a 1990's black or dark blue Subaru Legacy with up to three people in it, he said.
The premises had been cordoned off and a scene investigation would be conducted this morning.
Police were appealing to the public for any sightings of the vehicle.
