Drug raids net $300k of meth in South Auckland

Counties Manukau police hauled more than $300,000 worth of methamphetamine off the streets following raids across South Auckland last week.

More than 50 officers were involved in Operation Foiled, recovering 311 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of over $300,000.

Police also seized $41,000 in cash, two kilograms of cannabis, 420 new psychoactive substance pills (an imitation of ecstasy), 190 LSD tabs, six firearms and other drug paraphernalia.

Last week a total of 22 warrants were executed across the Counties Manukau district, including in Papatoetoe, Otahuhu, Mangere, Otara, East Tämaki, Pakuranga, Maraetai, Manurewa, Papakura, Pukekohe, and Patumahoe.

As a result, assets including six cars, four bikes and a house are now under investigation by the Counties Manukau Financial Investigation Unit.

Acting crime manager Inspector Gary Hill said since the end of January police have recovered 412 grams of methamphetamine. He described last week's haul as "an achievement".

"We are constantly targeting organised criminals who are earning a living from the manufacture and distribution of illicit drugs," said Mr Hill.

Operation Foiled was first launched in 2009.

"The consequences of drugs are harmful, especially methamphetamine. Its impacts are wide-reaching and often translate into other areas of offending such as burglary, stolen cars, serious violence and intimidation," said Mr Hill.
