David Vi Vong, charged with leaving a drugs laboratory in the grounds of Christchurch's Windsor School, has abandoned his bid for name suppression.
Defence Counsel Serina Bailey yesterday signalled a High Court appeal when interim suppression was refused in Christchurch District Court by Judge Jacki Moran.
She was given until 10am today to file the papers but said today that after further discussions with Vong it had been decided not to go ahead with the appeal.
Vietnam-born Vong, 35, had wanted suppression because of fears for his safety.
He is charged with possession of methamphetamine laboratory equipment and chemicals for making the drug, and with causing a criminal nuisance by leaving it in the school grounds last month.
He will plead not guilty.
