Drug-accused Kiwi Leeza Ormsby due for release in Bali today

A Kiwi who was busted with a half-smoked joint and served months in a Bali jail has learned some hard lessons, her lawyer says.

Leeza Ormsby, 38, will be released from Kerobokan jail today after an ordeal that began with a last-minute holiday in February.

In Bali, she stumbled on the scene of a drug raid on her friends' villa, where officers seized a half-smoked joint from her handbag.

Her friends had already vacated the villa, and with no other suspects, Ormsby was detained for months while officers unsuccessfully tried to link her to hashish and MDMA found in the villa.

She could have been jailed for up to 12 years, but received 10 months after showing contrition and a history of drug use.

The months she spent in police custody and a one-month discount for good behaviour were taken off her sentence.

Her lawyer Ari Soenardi says Rotorua-born Ormsby - who was living in inner-Sydney Paddington before her arrest - would be deported to New Zealand.

"She told me that she has learnt a lot from the case," he said.

"She said that what she did was only for temporary pleasure.

"If she doesn't learn from it, she will go back and forth to prison."

No one was charged over the other drugs found in the villa, which police pounced on after a tip off about an earlier "drugs party".
