KEY POINTS:
A man arrested during a year-long methamphetamine investigation fled before his trial date, police said today.
Di Wu - also known as Elvis - was due in the Auckland High Court on February 16, but absconded on February 8 while in the care of his lawyer.
The 25-year-old Chinese national was charged in December 2006 with conspiracy to supply and supplying a Class A drug.
He was granted bail and due for trial with a co-accused, police said.
Wu broke bail conditions on February 2 and was arrested, appearing in court two days later.
His lawyer, Ron Mansfield made a bail application, which was declined. Wu was remanded into the custody of Auckland Central Police Station, with a special proviso that he could have off-site access to his lawyers for four hours a day without police supervision.
Mr Mansfield informed police that he had fled during a February 8 access visit.
He is still at large and there is a warrant for his arrest.
Details of his disappearance were suppressed by the Court during the trial of his co-accused, 25-year-old Chen Wei Huang, which finished today.
The jury convicted Mr Huang of six counts of supplying the Class A controlled drug methamphetamine in October 2006, the total amount supplied having a street value exceeding $2 million.
Chen Wei Huang will appear in the Auckland High Court on May 8 for sentencing.
Police ask anyone with information about Di Wu's whereabouts to contact Detective Lloyd Schmid on 09 259 0719.
