Police are following up leads to identify a man who drowned in the sea off the suburb of Island Bay in Wellington yesterday.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found underwater by two recreational divers exploring Island Bay's new snorkel trail, Acting Senior Sergeant Lance Murdoch said.
Police were alerted to the about 3pm and dive squad members recovered the body.
The death did not appear to be suspicious, but Wellington CIB was investigating.
Mr Murdoch said the post-mortem examination was likely to take place today.
