Expo co-ordinator and UAV pilot Rene Clough said the event would be a good opportunity to inform people of the new flying rules and what they were and weren't allowed to do.
New regulations, from both the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the three Wairarapa district councils, regarding drones flying over private properties were introduced in August.
"This really affects drone pilots, the public and certain businesses such as real estate," Mr Clough said.
"With the explosion of the use of drones and the negative media hype, we think it is necessary for Wairarapa people to see first-hand what the different drones look like and how local pilots are using them in a responsible, safe manner."
Mr Clough said in the United States a million drones were expected to be sold over the Christmas period.
"We are not expecting that level of sales in New Zealand, however, they are becoming more and more common.
"With the growth in sales it's especially important to stress the need for more education."
Mr Clough said the Wairarapa Drone Pilots group was about providing fellow drone operators with support and guidance.
He said the group was trying to create a more informed public perception that accurately reflected the "dronies".
"There will be fantastic spot prizes and raffles of T-shirts, micro drones, larger drones, a remote control helicopter, subscriptions to drone magazines and a helicopter ride up for grabs," Mr Clough said.
