KEY POINTS:
Drivers in the Central Plateau and Fiordland are being warned of snow today and tomorrow.
MetService is forecasting squally showers with hail and thunderstorms for the Desert Rd to continue until tomorrow afternoon, with snow overnight.
Between two and five cm of snow could accumulate near the summit of the road, it said.
Metservice has also forecast light snow near the Milford tunnel today but said that should clear early this afternoon.
A southeast flow is expected bring a further three to five cm of fresh snow tomorrow morning until late afternoon.
