Two drivers escaped serious injury in a two-car collision near Masterton yesterday.
Wairarapa Police Senior Constable Harvey Pope said the drivers, a man and a woman, "were lucky" to have each escaped virtually unscathed in the collision that unfolded at the intersection of Cornwall Rd and SH2 just before 9am yesterday.
He said the woman driver had been turning her Mazda hatchback from the state highway on to Cornwall Rd when she was involved in the collision with a southbound utility vehicle. "I think there was some sunstrike involved as well and they're both lucky to avoid serious injuries."
Mr Pope said an ambulance took the male driver to Wairarapa Hospital with a sore arm. Traffic was only briefly disrupted while Masterton firefighters cleared the crash scene.
Each vehicle received moderate to serious damage.
