KEY POINTS:
Police are urging drivers intending to use the Rimutaka Hill Road on State Highway 2, north of Wellington, to day to postpone or cancel their trip because of high winds.
They said there had already been one weather related crash on the Upper Hutt side and they were concerned that the strong and unpredictable gusts would cause further crashes.
"Drivers should take extreme caution and expect delays when using this road," Inspector Ian Harris, of police central communications centre, said
