He said the collision had failed to cut the power supply to his home although the pole needed replacement and the vehicle had received moderate damage.
"It wasn't a write-off and most of the damage was towards the back end."
Mr Mayer said he and his volunteer crew were called to a second road crash involving a single occupant vehicle colliding with a power pole on SH2 near Hamua at about midnight.
He said a man, in his 20s, had been travelling south on SH2 when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the centre line, slamming head-on into a power pole.
Police and ambulance officers attended the scene and the man, who escaped the car unaided, was assessed and found to be uninjured.
Mr Mayer said the power pole had been left hanging precariously and police had closed the road while Powerco workers replaced the pole.
