An SPCA manager is appalled by a second case of a kitten being thrown from a moving vehicle.
The SPCA in Whangarei has been hunting for the owners of a blue van after four kittens were thrown from the window of a moving vehicle on December 15.
Two of the four kittens died, and the van owners are still being sought.
In a second incident on December 21, a kitten was thrown from the window of a white car into the path of oncoming traffic.
Whangarei SPCA manager Francine Shields said the actions of those responsible were "sickening and unnecessary".
"Anyone who can do that sort of thing knowing that it will cause injury or death are sick people," Ms Shields said.
The kitten was taken to a vet but died from its injuries, she said.
The person who picked the kitten up was unable to get the car's registration plate because it "had all happened so fast".
Ms Shields urged people who had unwanted animals to drop them off to the SPCA.
