Motorists have been stung by a 3c a litre rise in the price of petrol.
BP, Shell and Caltex all yesterday put up their prices to $2.1899 a litre, the highest level since July 2008.
The Automobile Association (AA) said today it did not look like petrol prices were going to come down in the near future and the reality was New Zealand was a very small market in the global industry.
"Motorists should be thinking at this time of driving in a fuel-efficient manner and review their driving styles to cut their petrol bill," AA spokesman Simon Lambourne told NZPA.
The AA had been for some time encouraging motorists to have a smoother driving style and ensuring tyres were inflated properly, among other things, he said, urging drivers to use petrol saving tips outline on AA's website.
