A campaign urging motorists to slow down around children starts today in Auckland, one of the worst regions in the country for child pedestrian injuries.
Organiser Roadsafe Auckland said the campaign was a reminder that children often did the unexpected and dashed across the road without warning. Billboards highlighting the message will appear around the region over the next two months.
Auckland Regional Transport Authority chief executive Alan Thompson said motorists had to slow down where children might be present, particularly round schools near busy roads. Nearly 200 schools are taking part in the campaign by reinforcing road safety to pupils and parents.
