KEY POINTS:
Diesel users have been spared the full brunt of the latest fuel price rises, after BP knocked 2c off an increase of 5c a litre which it posted on Monday.
The three other main oil companies have followed BP in lifting their petrol prices by 5c a litre - to 168.9c - although industry minnow Gull was last night still undercutting them by 1c.
But a decision by Shell late on Monday night to limit its increase on diesel to 3c a litre, resulting in a pump price of 119.9c, brought BP down from its earlier level of 121.9c. Caltex and Mobil followed the two larger companies yesterday morning, but Gull waited before settling on a diesel price of 118.9c.
