Police have named a driver who died after a losing control of his car and smashing into a bank in North Canterbury yesterday morning.
Mapu Hema, 68, of Christchurch, was the sole occupant in the car which crashed on State Highway One, near Greta Valley, Hurunui District, around 1.25am.
Police said the vehicle was travelling south and had recently overtaken another vehicle. The driver appears to have lost control of the car, crossed the centre line and rolled a number of times before coming to rest.
Police enquiries into the cause of crash are ongoing.
