Traffic was disrupted and residents were warned to stay indoors after a young driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a power pole in Masterton yesterday afternoon.
Masterton Fire Service station officer Mike Cornford said the young man driving the car had been uninjured in the single vehicle crash, which happened on Judds Rd near the intersection with High St about 4.20pm yesterday.
A fire crew, ambulance and police attended the scene of the collision. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and paramedics found he had escaped injury.
Mr Cornford said the base of the power pole had been completely destroyed and the remaining length of the standard had been left hanging by the 11,000 volt lines it had been supporting.
Mr Cornford said traffic was diverted and nearby residents were warned to stay indoors until line workers had repaired the damage.
