Emergency services are scrambling to prevent polluted waste spilling into waterways after a tanker crashed in South Auckland.
The tanker was carrying leachate from a landfill when it crashed and rolled at the corner of Wiri Station Rd and Roscommon Rd at 8.30am.
The driver was trapped inside the vehicle's cab and had to be rescued by firefighters.
Fire Service spokesman Jaron Phillips said crews were now racing to clean up the spill.
Leachate was still leaking from the tanker, and firefighters were damming nearby waterways to prevent pollution.
