KEY POINTS:
A driver so drunk he could not complete a breath test was arrested after driving on the wrong side of the road.
Acting sergeant Mike Owen, of Tauranga police, said the man's driving was reported to them on Saturday night by a couple who had to take evasive action by driving into a driveway to avoid a head on collision.
Police stopped the man's car in suburban Merivale, The Bay of Plenty Times reports.
The man twice fell over on being escorted to a police car and was unable to complete a breath test.
Mr Owen said the man was taken to Greerton police station for assessment by a doctor.
"The doctor was just shaking his head saying that guy was the worst he'd examined all year,"
"Our squad has probably about 26 years' experience (between them) and none of us had seen anything that bad."
The man was charged with driving while incapable.
