A man was flown to hospital with a serious head injury after being thrown through a sun roof following a crash overnight.
The car he was driving skidded and rolled on SH41 between Turangi and Tokaanu, at the southern end of Lake Taupo, about 1am.
Lion Foundation Rescue Helicopter pilot Dan Harcourt said the driver was flown to Taupo Hospital, while two male companions who received minor injuries were taken to the hospital by road.
The Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance said it had picked up the driver from Taupo and flown him to Waikato Hospital where he was expected to be in the intensive care unit for some time.
