A man has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after the Peugeot car he was driving collided with a stock truck and trailer today in Southland.
The fire service had to cut the man, 48, from the wreckage after the crash about 7am, on State Highway 99 near Riverton, west of Invercargill, Senior Sergeant Bruce Terry said.
The 34-year-old man driving the truck was shaken, but not injured, he said.
The road was closed while police investigated.
Police were still establishing what caused the crash and wanted to speak to anyone on in the area at the time.
The injured man had been flown to Southland Hospital by helicopter, Mr Terry said.
