A man has been rescued from a car which plunged into Auckland's Waitemata Harbour this morning.
Police communications shift commander Inspector Willie Taylor said emergency services were called about 6.47am after reports a vehicle had driven off Westhaven Drive, at the intersection with Curran Street, and plunged into the water.
"It appeared the vehicle was reversing for some reason and gone into the sea," Mr Taylor said.
He said a man nearby dived into the water and rescued the male driver from the car.
He was initially unresponsive and has been taken to hospital, however his condition is not considered life threatening.
