A car plunged into the Avon River at the roundabout at the intersection of Avondale Road and New Brighton Road at about 9:45pm tonight.
A police spokesperson said it appears two vehicles crashed, with one going into the river and a second crashing into a fence.
One person was pulled from the vehicle in the river and is now safe on the river bank.
