A driver was lucky to escape injury after rolling her car at the start of the Rimutaka Hill Road from Featherston yesterday morning.
The driver, who was heading towards Wellington, had just crossed the bridge over Abbots Stream when she lost control on the corner, say witnesses.
The driver of a following van said they were only going about 40km/h but the hatchback appeared to slip on the wet surface of the white line.
"She tried to correct it, she spun this way and rolled," said a witness. "I can't even explain it - it just happened."
The Featherston volunteer fire brigade, ambulance and police attended.
