A young female driver has been arrested and referred to youth aid after an alleged car theft from the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park ended in drama.
Police allege the woman was part of a group stealing a car, a Mazda Familia, from the car park near to the EIT Institute of Sport and Health about 11am on Tuesday.
But things did not go to plan. Witnesses told Hawke's Bay Today the owners of the car spotted the attempted theft taking place and ran outside to try to stop it.
The pair, both EIT students, were then hit by the stolen Familia as the woman drove out of the car park, and on to Percival Rd.
A St John spokeswoman said neither of pair hit had injuries to report, and they were not transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital.
