A 19-year-old fleeing driver is facing a raft of charges after leading police on a chase through Christchurch early this morning.
A police patrol attempted to stop the man, who was driving at excessive speeds, at Worcester St and Stanmore Rd in the city centre at about 3.30am this morning.
The driver ignored police requests to stop and drove away at speed from the patrol.
The pursuit was abandoned shortly after because of excessive speeds but the fleeing car was later found at Breezes/Dyers Rd where it was finally stopped by the patrol.
The man was charged with failing to stop for police, driving with excess breath alcohol and careless driving.
