A man is dead and another lucky to be alive after a truck crash on Auckland's Great South Rd yesterday.
The truck and a tailing vehicle were so close cargo from the crashed truck flew through the man's open car window, said Senior Sergeant Andrew Judson.
"They don't come closer than that and live to tell the tale."
The truck's 46-year-old male driver died at the scene.
The truck tipped over just before 11am yesterday after turning from Church St to Great South Rd in Mt Wellington. Police said it was too soon to determine whether speed was a factor in the accident.
The dead man's name had not been released yesterday.
Calven Bonney heard the crash while he was working and rushed with his staff to help but said there was nothing they could do.
