Driver killed in truck crash near Arthur's Pass

The driver of a truck and trailer unit is dead after his vehicle crashed over a bank on the Otira Highway, west of Arthur's Pass about 6.30am today.

Police Southern Communications acting team leader Leanne Ryan said the road would be closed for at least two hours because of debris on the road.

Serious crash units were on their way to the crash, between Arthur's Pass and Otira, she said.

Arthur's Pass is about 130km west of Christchurch.
