A man is in custody after a failed ramraid on an east Auckland bottle shop and an early morning chase through Auckland streets.
Police were called to the bottle store in Howick shortly after 5.45am today, Inspector Andy Brill from the police northern communications centre in Auckland said.
A short time later a police patrol attempted to stop a vehicle fitting the description of one of two thought to be involved in the raid.
"The car failed to stop and was chased for about two minutes," Mr Brill said.
"The driver abandoned the car in a residential street and ran off.
"Police officers chased him on foot and caught him in a nearby street. He is now assisting officers in their investigation."
