An Auckland driver who allegedly caused a cyclist to swerve into the path of an oncoming truck when he opened his car door is to stand trial early next year.
Glenn Hilton Becker, 35, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless use of a motor vehicle causing death.
He was charged after British cyclist Jane Mary Bishop, 27, died when she was caught under the wheels of a truck on Auckland's Tamaki Drive on November 17.
Becker appeared today in Auckland District Court. A trial date of January 31 was set.
Police have indicated they will present evidence from 14 witnesses at the trial, which was set down for three days.
Becker's lawyer Kevin Brosnahan said it was likely the defence would also call witnesses.
The lawyers will have a conference on November 2 to discuss any issues which may arise before the trial.
Becker was further remanded on bail.
