Police are investigating a crash involving a vehicle that plunged down a steep bank off Te Wharau Rd, near Carterton, on Saturday.
The driver of the utility vehicle was injured in the crash, which happened east of Carterton just after 4am.
The man had been injured and dazed and had climbed the bank in search of help. Passing drivers stopped and waited with him before a fire crew arrived and confirmed he was the sole occupant of the crashed vehicle.
A rescue helicopter had been turned back because of bad weather and the man was taken with minor injuries to Wairarapa Hospital.
The serious crash unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
