A truck driver who was trapped in his cab near Gisborne has been freed and taken to hospital.
The truck crashed on State Highway 2, south of Gisborne, about 4.45pm yesterday.
A shipping container from the trailer unit of the truck fell down a bank, leaving the cab on the road with the driver trapped inside.
A second occupant managed to get out of the cab without help.
A Gisborne police spokeswoman today said the driver had been freed from the cab and taken to Napier Hospital.
His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
