Whangarei police are looking for the driver of a stolen car, who fled from two crashes in the area this morning.
The Subaru Impreza, registration number FGZ617, was stolen from Auckland overnight, police said.
Sergeant Grant Rouse of Whangarei police told NZPA the vehicle was involved in a head-on crash with another car at Waipu, about 5.45am.
The driver then fled north on State Highway 1 and collided again with another vehicle, about 6.10am.
"The guy's obviously intent on getting away...and he's a danger to the public."
Nobody was injured in the crashes, Mr Rouse said.
Police expected the car would be dumped somewhere in the Whangarei or Northland area.
The driver was described as a Caucasian male.
The car was pale blue and had crash damage to the front wings and the rear of the vehicle.
It was last seen heading south on SH1 near the SH14 intersection, North of Whangarei, at about 6.30am.
