A man has been arrested after a high-speed police chase across Rotorua and the eastern Bay of Plenty which ended in his car rolling.
The 27-year-old from Rotorua was driving a stolen vehicle when police spotted him this morning.
A lengthy chase ensued, but was called off because of the man's dangerous driving, police said.
The Baytrust Rescue Helicopter continued to track the vehicle as it travelled from Rotorua, towards Paengaroa, and into Whakatane before heading through Edgecumbe and back towards Rotorua.
Eventually the man drove through road spikes at Lake Rotoma on State Highway 30. He tried to hide down a driveway, but as police approached he drove off and rolled the vehicle as he attempted to turn back onto the highway.
