The driver of a car which had been ordered to stop near Bay View in Hawke's Bay last night decided to make a dash for Napier - despite a punctured tyre which eventually came off.
During the man's efforts to get away, police clocked the car at more than 100km/h.
Police had come across the vehicle, which is believed to have been stolen, in Seafield Rd about 7pm.
Officers requested the driver to pull over but he drove off.
A second police unit moved in and a spike strip was laid. The spikes punctured the car's left front tyre but the driver carried on.
