Driver 'error' on Wairarapa commuter train

A train driver is believed to have made "a mistake" on a morning train from Wairarapa to Wellington yesterday.

A train driver is believed to have made "a mistake" on the 10.25am train from Wairarapa to Wellington yesterday.

Passengers were transferred to a bus between Carterton and Wellington.

A train passenger said there seemed to be a problem when the train stopped near Carterton, north of Matarawa Station, but nothing too unusual was happening.

"They called it an operational matter, something about the driver making a mistake," she said.

It had been well handled by staff but she decided not to continue on her journey.

A Tranz Metro spokesperson said yesterday that the operational incident was under investigation.

"I can't confirm anything until the investigation is concluded," the spokesperson said.

The 12.55pm service was also replaced by bus.
