A family were lucky to escape uninjured after a passing car crashed into their vehicle and drove on.
The crash happened on SH2 near Featherston, on Saturday at about 9pm. A northbound car crossed the centreline, just south of Featherston, and hit the southbound car in which a Wellington couple and their young daughter were travelling. The driver of the car that collided with the family did not attempt to stop.
Sergeant Peter Rix, of Masterton police, said the family were "fortunate to be uninjured" and were checked out by ambulance staff at the scene.
Their car was badly damaged.
Police believe the offending car was a silver, four door sedan, possibly a Mitsubishi and would have some frontal damage.
