Driver dies at Waikanae, Nelson pedestrian killed

One person died after a van rolled on State Highway 1 at Waikanae at midnight last night.

Sergeant Colin Graham of the Police Communications Centre said the dead person was the driver of the van.

There were no other vehicles involved.

Meanwhile, a female pedestrian is dead after a two car collision in Nelson yesterday afternoon.

The woman was walking along the side of the road when she was struck. She was Rosland Sylvia Sowery, 61, of Hira, northeast of Nelson..

In a further incident, one person died after a truck plunged off a bridge into a river in north Taranaki this morning.

The accident happened on the Tongaporutu Bridge, 58km north of Waitara, a Fire Service spokesman said.
